How BTEC National Extended Certificate is scored
At 360 guided learning hours this is the A-level-sized BTEC, and its D* and D match A* and A exactly. The gaps below that are wider: a Merit is 32, which is the same as a C, and a Pass is 16, the same as an E.
The steps are uneven: falling from Distinction to Merit costs 16 points, twice what an A level student loses going from B to C. Worth knowing if you are predicting your total.
Add it to your total
The calculator includes this qualification as a type you can add, alongside anything else you hold. If your other qualifications are Level 3 diplomas from OTHM or Qualifi, they will show as adding nothing, because they carry no Tariff points; the routes page explains what they lead to instead.

We are an independent agent, not LSPM's sales team, and we will say whether a UCAS application, an Access course or a Level 3 diploma is the better option for you, even when the answer earns this site nothing. Replies within two working days.
