How AS level is scored

Since the reformed A levels in England, an AS is a stand-alone qualification and is worth about 40 per cent of the full A level in points, not half. An AS at grade A is 20 points against 48 for an A at A level.

Only count an AS if you did not go on to complete the A level in that subject. A fourth AS you dropped after year 12 does count, provided you were certificated for it.

A number of universities cap how many points may come from AS levels, or ignore them altogether. Check before relying on them to reach a total.

Add it to your total

The calculator includes this qualification as a type you can add, alongside anything else you hold. If your other qualifications are Level 3 diplomas from OTHM or Qualifi, they will show as adding nothing, because they carry no Tariff points; the routes page explains what they lead to instead.

Not sure which route fits? Ask someone who will tell you straight.

We are an independent agent, not LSPM's sales team, and we will say whether a UCAS application, an Access course or a Level 3 diploma is the better option for you, even when the answer earns this site nothing. Replies within two working days.
